At Julius Becker Forest it’s pretty straight forward.

We’re old school. We don’t cut corners, we understand how to do it right, and we do as we say we are going to do.

We’ve learned over the years to become very focused on our customers to meet their needs.  It allows us to focus and excel at what we do, while allowing our customers to focus and excel at what they do.   We chose to take this traditional approach to create our longstanding customer base.   This is all a big part of who we are, and it’s also a recognition of our name sake from whom we chose to the name the business after.

We’ve found when we take care of our customers with old school integrity, they take care of us with longstanding business. Decades actually.  We’re growing old together.

Simply put, we understand that we can’t be everything to everybody, but rather we need to be something to somebody.

Who was Julius Becker?

Julius Becker 1875-1956

Julius Becker was Glenn Overhoffs great grandfather, a German industrialist.  He was a remarkable man who led a life of adventure, integrity and humanity.  These are qualities we strive to achieve in our business and our lives.   We wanted to honour Julius Becker by naming the company after him.

What we do

We’re in the sawmilling business, primary break down, logs to lumber.  It’s an art form learned over the years through an industry maturing, through all the market cycles, and through the desire to become the best we can.  We have the lash marks to prove it.

We are well experienced with the nuances between logs harvested mid coast, Vancouver Island, and further afield.  In each of these regions, the fibre is unique, has different yields, and is handled as such to maximize value.

We process gang, merch and oversize log sorts.  We know the recoveries and conversions intimately well for each sort.  We know exactly what they will produce for lumber grades, lumber sizes and lumber tallies, and we know how to saw them for maximum yield.  But most importantly we know how to translate this all into a market leading grade of Appearance dimensional lumber, posts and timbers, over and over again.

Have been at it a long time, we know what we are doing.

We market under the Little River and Viking Lumber Company brands and our products are sold both to distributors and remanufactures in North America. UP and BN railcar access is available. Core items produced are 2” rough dimension, 4x4 rough Appearance Post, 4x4 surfaced Appearance posts, and 6” timbers. All items produced are four square heavy FOHC.

Founded in 2001, Julius Becker Forest is a small log and lumber company solely focused on Cedar.

Our strength is the primary breakdown of logs and the secondary processing of the rough sawn lumber to finished product.  We have extensive experience in the western red cedar coastal log business and we understand the intricacies of various logs sorts from various geographical regions and what they can produce for grades and tallies.

With over 25 years experience of sawing and marketing western red cedar lumber; we have a clear understanding of the markets needs and we have a clear understanding of our customers needs. Most importantly, we clearly understand how to consistently meet these needs through the careful sawing of selected log sorts.
